We’ve been working hard here in Sonoma – and are so proud to announce the opening of our brand new Tasting Room!! Seven years ago, Hanson Organic Vodka was just a (very good) idea Chris and Brandon Hanson had. After convincing the whole family to get involved, building a distillery from the ground up, and perfecting our process, we are so ready for this next step – and excited to share our vodka with you, in person, 7 days a week.
Our goal with the tasting room is to showcase the versatility of our vodkas, featuring the five mainstay flavors – Original, Cucumber, Ginger, Mandarin, and Habanero – as well as seasonal releases (Espresso, Boysenberry) and exclusive flavors available only in the tasting room. Tastings will not be served in shot glasses, but carefully curated old fashioned glasses meant to best highlight the aroma and flavor of our vodkas.
We are also proud to offer an edited list of cocktails, made with locally sourced, whole ingredients – including fresh-pressed juices- and designed to express the ethos of our vodka: organic, flavor-forward, and all real. Our initial cocktail program was developed by our newest team member, Krzysztof Pawlik, who spent 10 years with the Thomas Keller Restaurant Group as general manager and beverage director. He will be heading up our tasting room, developing new cocktails, and eventually leading cocktail-making classes and other interactive events for our wonderful vodka-loving community.
Our vodka-making ethos – valuing real, organic ingredients without sacrificing great taste – was echoed in our tasting room build. We wanted to make something functional, beautiful, and fun, but also mindful of the environment. Scott Hanson, who spent the first half of his career as an artist, building and running galleries across the country, worked in collaboration with local metal fabricator Andrew Bradford to design the tasting room and cocktail bar. The walls are flanked with reclaimed hardwood, and custom-designed blackened natural steel bottle shelving behind the bar gives it an industrial edge. The countertop at the bar is made from honed Calcutta marble while the back bar tops are clad in brushed copper. The Hansons installed the highest quality bar equipment including custom built Tobin Ellis cocktail stations, a Kold-Draft ice machine and a Nordaq FRESH water filtration system designed to be a superior palate cleanser. Bar stools allow for seating at the bar and there are high-top tables and chairs for additional seating. An outdoor courtyard, perfect for picnics and cocktails during the warmer months and for hosting large events and gatherings, surrounds a pond that uses reclaimed water from the distillery (and also irrigates the vineyards and landscaping).
